Eco Material 12

When thinking about using coconut and bamboo as a it would have to imported, i decided to looking companies that use this material to fully understand where they get there material from. To see if this would challenge my initial thoughts of where the material comes from

coconut
      eco palm - wooden flooring

manufactured from the species Cocusc Nucifera which is abundant in carefully controlled plantations mainly in Asia.

bamboo

The bamboo species we use is called Moso and grows in the low mountain areas of eastern China and is exposed to extreme temperature changes making it naturally very durable

both material grow in asia this would mean larger emissions in transporting the products - this would not suite the brief so I will be looking back at my list of woods and then seeing what materials  who be the most suitible which can be sourced from the UK

Eco Materials - 11

When looking at bamboo i can across this interesting material, which used coconuts this was called 'coconut palm wood'.

it can replace a lot of tropical hardwood’s that are taken from the precious Rainforest
Coconut palm trees are a by-product of coconut growing so this means that you are only cutting down trees that have reached the end of their commercial life. Instead of burning them they are used for creating something useful.
although coconut palm comes from far away, it is so much better to import coconut palm wood than endangered tropical hardwoods taken from the irreplaceable rainforest
- can it be grown in the UK ?

images of the patten on the wood

- I really like the unique patten of the wood - however transporting it would be a problem - i believe I would be better of using waste wood to make the product that can be found in the UK.
